The second single to be lifted from the ‘1000 Watts’ LP by Quantic Presenta Flowering Inferno, which dropped on 17th June to accolades including BBC 6Music Album of the Day and a Songlines Top of the World award, is the title cut: “1000 Watts feat. Christopher Ellis”. Out 26th August, the digital single package highlights this timeless summer reggae jam – which has been Officially Playlisted on BBC 6Music - alongside two new heavyweight remixes by Chimpo and Amit of standout tracks from the album.

Packed with charisma and glorious gospel-style backing vocals, “1000 Watts feat. Christopher Ellis” was written by Will “Quantic” Holland especially for Ellis and his 1000 Watt charm. “After hearing his amazing voice and style I really wanted to work with him,” Holland says. “The character in the song is trying to win a girl’s attention, comparing the quality of his love and dedication to the power of a very loud sound system!” The tune recently proved a huge crowd-pleaser in Quantic’s triumphant live set on Glastonbury’s West Holts Stage (which also featured guest spots from the likes of Hollie Cook and Alice Russell, and was filmed by the BBC), part of the 1000 Watts Tour which continued throughout July.

Included on the single are the formidable edits from both Chimpo & Amit.

First up is Manchester-based producer, DJ and MC Chimpo – a collaborator of the likes of Dub Phizix, Trigga, Serocee, Footsie, Strategy and Big Narstie, with releases on labels including Metalheadz, Exit and Ninja Tune. Here he brings some after-dark, shadowy moodiness to Quantic and singer Nidia Góngora’s winsome version of Colombian Cumbia song, “Chambacú”, effortlessly flicking between the carefree live section and a more intense, driving darkness. “It’s got clear hook lines that I knew I could work into a club friendly vibe”, says Chimpo, of the Quantic version; “and I just love the song – it makes me feel like I’m on holiday drinking a weird cocktail”.

Prolific, genre-bending artist Amit capitalises on the sun-drenched positive vibes of “A Life Worth Living”, transporting Alice Russell’s delicate harmonies and the toasting of dub originator U-Roy to a sweet spot right between dub and jungle music. In the words of the pioneering producer (who has worked on projects with everyone from Iggy Pop to Machinedrum), “I went crazy with spring reverbs, tape delays and general Tubby type signal processing. With all the experimenting in mind, I still wanted it to have enough balls so that it would kick guts on a sound system.”
